Supermarket giant Asda has reported that its online market share has increased to 18.4%, according to its second quarter results, while in-store sales are up by 0.5%, which as the company’s president and CEO Andy Clarke reports, shows is “making good progress on its ambition to lead online.”

The store’s online success has been driven predominantly by its click and collect service, which now accounts for 10% of all online orders and is used by more than 20,000 Asda customers per week.

According to Clarke, the results, which cover the 10 weeks to June 30, predict that in the next five years click and collect orders will treble with 30% of all orders expected to be collected in Asda stores.

As we reported recently, Asda has been trialling new advertising formats on its website recently which are inspired by Facebook posts. Users are asked to pick a favourite product out of four and have the option to add it to their online basket directly from the advert.

Using the format, Asda has inked deals with P&G, Unilever, and Pepsico to use between now and January 2015.
